What is C-TPAT?
C-TPAT (Customs–Trade Partnership Against Terrorism) is a voluntary, joint government-business partnership to help increase supply chain and border security. Air carriers, consolidators, cross-border highway carriers, marine port authorities, ocean carriers, rail carriers, terminal operators, third party logistics (3PLs) providers, Customs brokers and importers are eligible for C-TPAT certification in the United States.
When companies join the partnership, companies sign an agreement to work with CBP to protect the supply chain, identify security gaps, and implement specific security measures and best practices.
C-TPAT members are considered low-risk and are therefore less likely to be examined. This designation is based on a company’s past compliance history, security profile, and the validation of a sample international supply chain.

REDUCED EXAMINATIONS
When a C-TPAT certified company imports cargo, the shipment will be placed in a preferred category. Even if the shipment is selected to be inspected, the process will be much faster if it is being imported by a C-TPAT certified U.S. importer. These benefits result in reduced inspection fees, customs fees, cargo fees, and increased speed to final destination - all of which will have a positive effect on your company’s bottom line!

PRIORIZED IMPORT SHIPMENTS
C-TPAT certified importers will get front of line privileges for shipments selected for examination. To the extent possible and practicable the containers/trailers can be moved ahead of any non C-TPAT containers/trailers awaiting exam, regardless of how long they have been there. Overall, there will be a reduction in time and cost of getting cargo released by U.S. Customs
